What can i watch with new monitor?

Hi guys,

i have just bought a 24" Benq 1080p monitor for my birthday (lucky boy) and have a real noob question.... here goes;

what can i watch on it? I know i can use blue ray, ps3, but what about say an AVI file? Is it as simple as downloading something high def, or does the monitor need to be connected to a high def graphics card?

I currently have a 8800 GTS 320mb.

Any help would be great, as i really have no idea!
